Opportunity class placement test will be held on 27 Jul 2023 for Year 5 entry in 2024.

The Opportunity class program by the New South Wales government provides an excellent environment for Students in Year 5 to join select classes designed to hone their academic skills and contribute towards a brighter future for the nation.

Every year in July, students across the nation have access to testing and learning opportunities through Opportunity Classes.

Not only are test centers available in many cities for those able to attend in person, but remote learners can also join with an offline mode option provided by Aurora College.

Knowing key dates is essential for enrolling, ensuring timely preparation ahead of rigorous Opportunity Class tests.

27 July 2023	Opportunity Class Placement Test
3 August 2023	Last day to submit Illness/misadventure requests
6 August 2023	Parents access ‘Test authority’ advice in the application dashboard Parents advised of reasonable adjustments granted for the test
September 2023	Selection committee meets
20 October 2023	Placement outcome information expected to be released
from 20 October 2023	Last day to change school choices in the application dashboard
Mid-November 2022	Reserve bands available on website
18 January 2024	Parents accept or decline first-round offers
19 January 2024	‘Authority to attend’ letters are made available in the application dashboard to parents of students with accepted offers to take to the school on the first day of term in 2024

Opportunity class application process

With only 1800 students placed out of the 10,000 applications across 77 primary schools each year – this selective program requires a lot of preparation and perseverance.

The New South Wales government has made the process of applying and preparing for the OC test an easy one, saving busy parents and students stress.
