He grabbed a marker and wrote $\frac{3}{4}$ before I could ask. He looked up like he’d caught me cheating. “¿Siempre fue así?” After that, we rebuilt. Every new topic started with something physical: cups of water for decimals, steps across the room for integers. Three months later he scored 82% on his final. The number matters less than what he told me walking out: “Profe, ya no me da miedo la hoja.” What I learned Mateo didn’t need more rules. He needed to see math before he symbolized it.
