Have you ever faced challenges with hitting low notes or maintaining control in your singing? One of our students Oliver faced it too.
Oliver, a dedicated student, wanted to fine-tune his vocal technique and bring out more expression. He wanted to sing songs like “Cry Me a River” and “On the Street Where You Live.”
Even though he loved singing, his voice sometimes lacked the support and power needed.
After working with Samara Braga in personalized 1-on-1 voice lessons, Oliver made great strides in both his technique and confidence.

Real class insight: Oliver’s one-on-one vocal session
In his last singing lesson with Samara, Oliver worked on improving his low notes, breath support, and dynamics. Here’s what happened during the lesson:
Improving low notes – gaining better control and support
Oliver struggled with achieving clarity and strength in his low notes. During the G minor section of “Cry Me a River.” Samara noticed tension in his voice and a lack of support. She took him through an exercise focused on core strength and keeping the back of his throat open.
What Oliver learned:
“Samara showed me how important core support is when singing low notes,” Oliver shared. “I had no idea how much I needed to engage my stomach muscles to avoid cracking.”
By practicing better breath control and keeping his posture aligned, Oliver started to feel more grounded in his low notes, making them easier and more comfortable to sing.
Mastering diction and expressiveness – improving articulation

Another area Oliver wanted to improve was his diction and expressiveness, especially during more emotional parts of the songs. During their session, Samara worked with him on making his words clearer and more impactful, particularly in phrases like “Cry me a river” and “On the street where you live.”
What Oliver learned:
“Samara taught me how to emphasize specific words and bring out more emotion,” Oliver explained. “She showed me that adding a little more punch to words like ‘town’ and ‘poor’ would give the song more feeling.”
By focusing on better pronunciation and emotional delivery, Oliver was able to infuse more depth into his singing.
Building confidence – letting go of hesitation
Oliver sometimes held back when reaching certain higher notes or tackling powerful phrases. Samara worked with him to help him build confidence. She encouraged him to face those more intense moments head-on and sing with more control and power.
What Oliver learned:
“At first, I was nervous about some of the more intense parts of the song,” Oliver recalls. “But Samara helped me lean into those higher notes with more attitude and power. Now, I feel much more confident when I sing.”
With Samara’s support, Oliver stopped hesitating and began to embrace those moments, adding more dynamic contrast to his performance.
Why this matters: You can improve too
Oliver’s progress in just one session shows how personalized 1-on-1 singing lessons can help you overcome vocal challenges.
With targeted feedback and tailored exercises, Oliver gained more control over his low notes, improved his diction, and developed the confidence to take his performance to the next level.
Oliver walked away from his lesson saying, “I feel much more comfortable with my low notes now, and I’m ready to take on the higher parts with more confidence.”
