How 1-on-1 singing lessons helped Sam start tackling performance anxiety and discover his voice

Sam has always been surrounded by music. Growing up listening to The Beatles, Elton John, and Adele, he dreamed of becoming a singer himself. But like many beginners, Sam faced a major obstacle: performance anxiety and fear of straining his voice.

That’s when he discovered Wiingy. With just a couple of singing lessons with his tutor, Martina, he already feels the difference – and he’s just getting started.

Watch Sam share his journey with Wiingy

“I’ve always wanted to sing like a pro. I chose Wiingy to help me understand my voice – and to overcome the nerves.” – Sam

The starting point: “Why not become a singer too?”

From a young age, Sam immersed himself in music – not formally, but passionately. Choir in school gave him a taste, but he never pursued voice lessons seriously until recently.

“I grew up listening to Adele, Elton John, and The Beatles. At some point, I thought – why waste time? Why not go for it?”

He came to Wiingy looking for two things:

  • Better control of his voice
  • Confidence to sing without fear

Real class insight: Working with Martina

Sam’s very first voice coach is his current Wiingy tutor – Martina. In just two lessons, she made a powerful impression.

“She’s awesome. The thing that stood out most? She taught me how to breathe correctly and avoid straining my voice. That was huge for me.”

Together, they’re still exploring his vocal range and tone, taking things one step at a time. Martina’s patient, supportive teaching style makes the process feel safe and encouraging.

Working through anxiety – One note at a time

Sam loves singing, but performance anxiety still gets in the way. He’s not ready to sing on camera just yet – but he’s making progress.

“I’d love to sing for you now, but we’re still working on my anxiety. I’ll get there – just not today.”

Martina helps him not only with technique, but with mindset – showing Sam that it’s okay to take it slow.

Busting the biggest myth: “You don’t need natural talent to sing”

One of Sam’s favorite messages to share is this: singing isn’t just for the “naturally gifted.” Anyone can learn – even if they’re told they’re “tone-deaf.”

“You don’t need natural talent. Everyone starts out not great. Then they practice and get better. That’s it.”

He’s determined to spread that message to others who may be holding themselves back.

“If I were you, I wouldn’t listen to that myth. Singing is for everyone – it just takes time and heart.”

Just getting started – and already seeing progress

Even after just two sessions, Sam has noticed real change. His voice feels more supported, he’s learning how to control tension, and he’s finally understanding what his voice needs.

“I already feel a difference in my singing – and I’m excited for more lessons with Wiingy.”
