What to do when a student cancels a lesson
Occasionally, students may need to cancel a lesson. Understanding how to handle cancellations ensures you maintain professionalism and minimize disruptions in your schedule. This article provides guidance on what to do if a student cancels a lesson, how to prevent cancellations, and how it affects your earnings and performance metrics.
What happens when a student cancels
When a student cancels a lesson, the following occurs:
- Demo cancellation notification: You will be notified through your Wiingy Tutor Portal or via email. For details on notifications, read Manage notifications.
- No compensation: Generally, no payment is made for cancelled regular lessons unless they are a demo lesson and fall under specific circumstances, like a Late Night Payout (LNP) for demos cancelled after midnight.
- Compensation for LNP: If a demo cancellation falls within the LNP criteria, you will be compensated accordingly.
Rescheduling a cancelled lesson
If a student cancels a regular lesson, you may have the opportunity to reschedule the lesson. Follow these steps to reschedule:
- Communicate with the student: Reach out to the student via the Wiingy Tutor Portal to confirm availability for rescheduling.
- Update your calendar: Use the Calendar section of the Tutor Portal to select a new time for the lesson. For more on scheduling lessons, see How to schedule lessons.
- Confirm the new schedule: Ensure that both you and the student confirm the new timing to avoid further issues.
Impact of cancellations on earnings
When a lesson is cancelled, the impact on your earnings will depend on several factors:
- No payment for cancelled lessons: Generally, cancelled regular lessons do not result in payment. However, if it’s a demo lesson, cancellation may still lead to payment under specific conditions, such as Late Night Payout (LNP) for demo lessons cancelled after midnight.
- Frequent cancellations: Repeated cancellations, whether for regular or demo lessons, may negatively impact your performance metrics and influence future demo lesson assignments. For tips on improving your performance, see Become a Supertutor.
Late Night Payout (LNP)
If a demo lesson is scheduled between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM in your time zone, and the demo is cancelled after 12:00 AM, you will receive a Late Night Payout (LNP). This is a special payment to compensate tutors for taking on late-night demo lessons.
How to handle no-shows
If a student does not attend a regular lesson, there is no compensation for the missed session.
However, tutors are encouraged to remind students about the value of time and communicate with them through Wiingy Chat.
If a student repeatedly misses lessons without prior communication, please report the issue to Wiingy support for further action. For more on how to contact Wiingy support, see Contact Wiingy support.
