About the tutor
Hello, I'm Joon Kim, a composer, audio engineer, and music tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Film Scoring and Video Game Scoring from Berklee College of Music. I specialize in teaching Piano, Singing, and Violin to students of all levels and ages - from five year old beginners to returning adult students. I've played piano since I was five years old, started violin and viola at nine, picked up guitar around twelve and went into writing music afterwards. I have experience performing at recitals and concerts solo, as well as experience in symphonic orchestras, musical pit orchestras, and several bands. For my own experience, I currently write film and multimedia music part time, as well as doing audio engineering for bigger projects and vocalists. I work a lot with film creators, content creators on social media, and video game developers. I decided to go into my current line of work when I was thinking about my passions earlier on and decided to combine them! I have a love for music and media work like film and games and decided it would be great to be able to work with teams to tell a story through the use of music. If you're ready to learn music with a custom curriculum based on your musical interests, feel free to sign up for a demo lesson with me.

Teaching methodology
As a music tutor, I believe that it's my job to make music interesting and fun as much as it is to teach a curriculum and skills. To fit this ideal, my teaching style is theory based, practical, and fine-tuned to your interests and goals as a student. I write out my students' favorite songs for their instrument and skill level so that they can learn music that they love while also relating it to the lessons we're currently learning at the time. Eventually, I'd like all my students to practice because they want to learn that new favorite song, not because they have to. Our first demo lesson will generally be a meeting for me to get to know you and your interests as a musician, as well as your goals for taking lessons with me. After learning more about you, we'll generally work on a curriculum book, musical theory, and a song of your choice tuned to your skill level and the current material we're learning at the time throughout the next several lessons. As well as our regular lesson schedule, I like to do monthly check-ins with students to make sure that they're still engaged and that the difficulty of the lessons aren't too high or low for them. Together with tuning each lesson to each students' needs, these monthly check-ins allow me to make sure that we're making the most of our time together and that my students stay interested in the subject.
