What is an AP Performance Task?

The AP Performance Task is a culminating project that students complete in their AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) course.

It is a chance for students to demonstrate their understanding of the course material by creating a personalized programming project.

The AP Performance Task is divided into three parts:

  • Planning: Students develop a plan for their project, including the problem they want to solve, the algorithm they will use, and the data they will need.
  • Implementation: Students implement their project, writing the code and testing it to make sure it works correctly.
  • Presentation: Students create a presentation to showcase their project, including a video of their program in action and a written report that explains their work.

The AP Performance Task is worth 20% of the overall grade for the AP CSP course. It is an important part of the course because it allows students to apply what they have learned in class to real-world problems.

Benefits of the AP Performance Task

The AP Performance Task has a number of benefits for students, including:

  • It allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the course material in a creative and meaningful way.
  • It helps students develop their problem-solving skills.
  • It teaches students how to work independently and as part of a team.
  • It prepares students for the challenges of college and career.

AP Performance Tasks are an important part of the AP exam. They allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the course material in a more nuanced way than multiple-choice questions, and they also require students to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

In summary

AP Performance Tasks are an important part of the AP exam. They allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the course material in a more nuanced way than multiple-choice questions, and they also require students to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
