Hello, fellow musician! My name is Emily Shaull, and I would love to teach you! I am a caring, creative, and supportive Music tutor who will challenge you to take your musical skills to the next level! I've always loved to sing. My musical journey began at a very young age when I began taking piano lessons with my grandmother. As I grew, I became increasingly involved with music through a number of various avenues-- musical theater, choir, leading musical and religious events, private piano and voice lessons, marching band, and symphonic band! One of my highlights of my younger years was to tour professionally in parts of Europe. I was able to work with some incredible instructors. They are a huge part of why I chose to go into the Music field. So why else did I choose to teach music? 1. People. I love people! One of my passions is to invest into others and healthily challenge them to grow in their giftings. 2. Let's face it--I'm a huge music theory nerd. I was actually a Teacher's Assistant during college for Music Theory! 3. Music is an ART. It is one that sets my heart on fire and makes me dance inside. I love how music can show such deep expression and tell intricate stories to its listeners. 4. Singing is like breathing to me. It is something I truly love. I also am in awe of how our amazing bodies can make such a wide breadth of beautiful sounds! We ourselves are instruments. So there you have it! Music is basically my life. Would you like me to help you to make it an even more wonderful part of yours as well? (:

7th-grade math tips are a must-read for every middle schooler who wants to do well in 7th-grade math and prepare thoroughly for high school math.

7th-grade maths might be difficult, particularly if you don’t know how to approach it. In 7th grade, you begin with pre-algebra, which lays the groundwork for Algebra I and II in high school maths.

Besides, you also cover several statistics, numbers, and geometry concepts. The syllabus can be vast and you may not be able to complete your preparation on time if you don’t have a plan for it.

We therefore asked our 7th-grade maths tutors to devise the most useful tips for your math preparation.

Follow the steps given below to achieve success in 7th-grade math:

  • Review the math concepts
  • Know your curriculum expectations
  • Analyze your learning needs and goals

Review Middle School concepts and syllabus

Firstly, answer these questions so that you become aware of the concepts and syllabus you are going to cover while studyingWhat is the 7th-grade math curriculum? What is the lesson plan for 7th-grade math?

The answer to these questions will make you conscious of your goals and learning needs.

Make a checklist of the chapters, topics, and sub-topics of math lessons as given below:

Pre-Algebra

  • Patterns.
  • Equations and Inequalities.
  • System of equations.
  • Variables and Expressions.
  • Percent and rational numbers.
  • Functions and linear models.
  • Ratios and rates.
  • Percentages.
  • Exponents intro and order of operations.
  • Proportional relationships.
  • Factors and Multiples.
  • One-step and two-step equations and inequalities.
  • Roots, exponents, and scientific notations.

This is a checklist that you have to tick day-to-day as and when you complete the study of the particular concept. Make this a very important part of your daily routine as it will help you to accomplish your goal.

Figure out curriculum expectations

Curriculum is to find out the resources and materials you will require, and the time you will have to invest with maximum planning and effort to achieve a set goal. Here are a few questions for you to answer when calculating your effort:

Prioritize the topics and subtopics

  • What do you want to do by the end of the course or unit?
  • What are the most important topics to practice?
  • What are the most difficult math topics?
  • What are easy-to-score math topics?

Finding resources

  • What activities and assessments will help you achieve your learning goals?
  • Are there specific online lessons, videos, web tutorials, YouTube channels, or tutoring services that can help you excel in 8th-grade math?

Time Management

Set time-bound goals. These timers should be realistic. For example, you want to complete studying factors and multiples in a day. Question yourself if it is possible or not. If it looks unrealistic, it’s not achievable.

  • How many hours will you dedicate to studying?
  • Out of the total hours, how many hours are you going to study math?
  • What will be the interval of your breaks during your study period?
  • Is it achievable to cover the topic in the given time?

Once you have a clear picture of the material, effort, and time you are going to give to study math, you are ready to make a study plan.

Analyze your learning needs and goals

Make a study plan based on the curriculum. Learning needs and goals should be considered well in making a study plan. If you’re looking for personalized support to meet your unique learning goals, learn more in our blog: Math Tutoring for All Ages: How Wiingy Supports K-12 and Beyond.

Academic success has long been linked to effective study methods, skills, and administration. According to research conducted by Crede, M., & Kuncel, N. R. (2008), the study plans made by students help them to become more organized. They start using their time wisely and achieve greater academic success.

Here are a few steps on how to make a study plan:

Consider your learning goals

Firstly, identify your goals. What do you want to achieve and what score do you want? Answering these questions will set a target in your mind and will help you to make an appropriate study plan.

Consider your learning needs

Based on your past knowledge, style, method, and approaches to learning, you can figure out your learning needs. This makes you aware and helps you to make a suitable curriculum for yourself.

Be realistic

Plan keeping in mind your capacity. Don’t burden yourself with unrealistic goals. Prepare mentally for uncertain tasks. As said earlier, do not plan for 10 topics daily, if you can cover only 5.

Talk to your teachers and mentors

Your counselors or teachers know your strengths and weaknesses. Seek help from them to make a suitable plan for your studies.

Finally, create a detailed study plan

A study plan can be created on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis. Keep the following information in mind while making a study plan.

Number of hours: Fix the number of hours you will give to study 7th-grade math.

Time of the day: Select a particular time of the day that you will be able to give daily. Make this time distraction-free.

Lessons or Concepts: Set daily targets for the concepts and lessons you will study each day.

Test day: Assign a day for tests. This will help you access your math skills. The results will show how well you have mastered the math concept. Either a 7th-grade math tutor can prepare the test or you can solve past papers. Check the papers that you have solved by yourself honestly to get actual results.

Monthly goal: Fix a monthly target to be achieved by the end of each month.

💡Tip: Study plan can be made on study plan calendars, Google Sheets, and notepad, just write it with a pen on a piece of paper.

Practice past papers

Practicing past papers is an effective strategy for studying. It is like a memory test. The results of the solved past papers will show how well have you understood the math concept. Source: Roediger, H. L., & Karpicke, J. D. (2006).

The format of the past papers in general remains similar to the current format of the exam papers. You can study the concepts that are given in the past papers thoroughly.

Solve these past papers in a limited time. This will help you to monitor your speed in an exam hall.

Here are the tips to practice past papers effectively:

Follow recent years’ papers

Look for papers from recent years, as this will give you the best idea of the current format of the test.

For example, if you’re about to take your exam in 2024, start by practicing question papers from the year 2023 to the year 2014 in this order: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, and so on.

Use past papers to revise a concept

Each time when u finish studying a topic, solve a past paper to evaluate. This will help you to understand whether you have mastered the topic or not.

For example: Once you have studied a concept, supposedly you have studied a topic, fractions. Solve past papers on this topic. Results will prove how well you have understood it. If you are unable to solve the papers this means you need more practice.

Focus on the timely completion of answers

Exams are time-bounded. Solving the past papers in a limited time will help you to complete your exams on time.

For example: Solve the exam practice papers in 2.5 hours. This will help you to complete your exams on time and you will be able to recheck your paper before submission.

Focus on the improvement areas

Take your teacher’s guidance and help if you do not understand a topic properly. You can also revise a topic again if you are not clear about a particular concept.

For example: many students find Middle School algebra difficult. If you get stuck in algebra problems, focus on practicing them more. Review the concept again or seek a tutor’s help so that the concept becomes clear. Then try to solve the problem again.

Find a math tutor

A teacher’s feedback is very important in the journey of learning. The teachers understand a student’s highs and lows and prepare the student for the test accordingly. This results in better Academic success for the students. Source: Hattie, J., & Timperley, H. (2007).

A math teacher will help you in clarifying difficult concepts of middle school math. They will guide you if you have any doubts about any middle school math concepts and help you prepare for tests. So make sure to get help from qualified and experienced 7th-grade math tutors.

Be consistent with 7th-grade math tips

Consistency is the key to achieving good results in your academics. Practicing regularly will strengthen your math concepts. You will be able to solve problems easily. This will make you more confident.

Daily determination towards practice will motivate you to achieve greater results. It will develop your problem-solving skills. Each problem you face in math prepares you for a challenge. Don’t give up. Keep progressing.
