About your tutor

I am a full time musician and songwriter in Nashville, TN and spent my formative years honing my skills in guitar and piano. I graduated from Belmont University with a double major in finance and music business, which has further helped me to pursue my aspirations in music city. I have been a part of a number of projects in many different genres including Grateful Dead covered bands to country bands, to Latin pop music and I've toured across the US and even played shows internationally. My experience with music has brought me to my pursuit of teaching, in hopes that I can open the door to expression for others in the same way I have found it in guitar.

Teaching methodology

I prefer to take the "student first" approach to learning music. At the end of the day music is a passion before it is a discipline so I let the student determine what we cover, what the goals of lessons are, and most importantly the genre music we choose to focus on. I like teaching this way because it instills a desire to learn in each student rather than make guitar a box to check before the next lesson. That being said, there are no required textbooks or lesson homework outside of any material the student would like to take a deeper look into. This is opposing the usual methodology that many teachers use of "here's a music book let's look at these pages" because I don't believe we learn music that way. Music always starts as a pursuit of a hobby, so it should remain something that we enjoy learning, and picking up at the end of the day. The work I do with students is intended to reflect the initial passion and interest they had that drove them to take lessons in the first place.
