How to ace a standardized exam
by Taytum Stafford | USA
For anyone to ace a standardized exam, they must take a strategic and disciplined approach, and my plan depends on early and consistent preparation in addition to using various resources and techniques. As I prepare to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), I am following the same plan that has proven successful in my previous attempts with standardized exams like the SAT and ACT.
Firstly, I realize the importance of starting my prep early. By commencing my studies well in advance, I cover all the material thoroughly and revisit complex concepts multiple times. I am actively engaged in tutoring sessions for calculus and supplementing my understanding of biochemistry through online college courses available on platforms like YouTube. These resources provide structured content and offer insights and explanations that complement my learning style.
I use note-taking, creating flashcards, and generating quizzes on platforms like Quizlet to reinforce my understanding and retention of key concepts. These tools facilitate active engagement with the material and enable me to assess my progress regularly. Moreover, they offer versatility in studying, allowing me to adapt my approach based on the subject matter and my evolving learning needs.
Recognizing the significance of real-world applications and insights, I have proactively contacted medical professionals to gain additional perspectives and advice tailored to the MCAT. Leveraging their expertise enriches my understanding of the subject matter and provides valuable insights into the practical implications of the concepts being tested.
I exemplify my commitment to excellence by my willingness to retake standardized exams multiple times, as shown by my experiences with the SAT and ACT. I know that attaining my goal score may require persistence and dedication, and I am willing to invest time and effort to reach my goals. For the MCAT specifically, I am fully committed to taking the exam as often as needed to secure admission into my preferred medical schools.
Time is of the essence, especially considering my accelerated academic trajectory. Having already graduated with an Associate of Science degree and entering university as a junior, I am very aware of the importance of optimizing my study time efficiently. As such, I prioritize tasks and allocate dedicated time slots for MCAT preparation while balancing other academic and personal commitments.
To reiterate, my approach and plan for acing standardized exams depends on early and consistent prep work, maximizing various resources and techniques, finding expert guidance, and maintaining a steadfast commitment to excellence. With determination, perseverance, and a strategic approach, I am confident in my ability to excel on the MCAT and achieve my aspirations of becoming a successful medical professional.
