Throughout the years, many students have struggled with problems such as test anxiety. A student could be one of the top academic performers in the school, and still receive a bad score. The SAT does not reflect your real potential, as it causes test anxiety, stress, and the set back of not receiving the financial aid that could be attained.

The SAT does not reflect your real potential as it causes test anxiety. Students all over the world experience this anxiety throughout school. These standardized tests cause an immense amount of anxiety because they often are the determining factor of how much financial aid a student can receive from a college. Because of the anxiety caused by these tests, students often feel overly nervous and worried about the test before they even take it, which causes the thought of failure before they even receive the test. This can cause students to not perform well on the test, as they enter with the mindset of failure.

The SAT causes unnecessary stress on students which causes them not to be able to perform to the best of their ability. With the time constraints, students often feel as though they are stuck and will never be able to finish in time. This brings extra stress and pressure on the student which causes them not to perform to the level that they can. Another factor of this is that many students are not equipped with the resources to prepare them for the SAT, so they are caught off guard by these time constraints.

The use of the SAT on college admissions can cause a set back in the amount of financial aid that they can attain. These types of set backs often cause students to be unable to afford their college and cause many students to be forced into debt. Having to take on debt in order to pay for college can cause major set backs in their financial life even after they graduate from college. These set backs often lead to more stress throughout life as it could’ve been avoidable if the student was able to receive the same financial aid based off of GPA, rather than the SAT.

The SAT does not reflect a student’s true academic potential, as it causes test anxiety, stress, and the set back of not receiving the financial aid that could be obtained. The SAT is a helpful standardized test, but does not accurately reflect potential.
