by Samaira Abdul-Waalee | USA
As I reflect on my high school journey, I realize that it has been a unique experience. I started school at an early age and being the youngest in my class was a challenge but it taught me that education is not just about academics. It’s about achieving a balance between academic excellence and extracurricular engagement. This balance has helped me prepare for the diverse challenges that lie ahead. Through my formative experiences, I have learned that success demands more than just academic prowess. It requires a holistic approach that includes personal growth and development beyond the confines of the classroom.
Since 5th grade, I have prioritized achieving good grades, maintaining high honors every term since starting high school. While my family does not place much emphasis on grades, I am driven by my own desire to learn and grow, knowing that a good education is key to unlocking my future potential and achieving my dream of becoming an engineer. I am motivated to complete homework, study for tests, and participate in group projects because of my passion for learning and unwavering determination to succeed.
Extracurricular activities such as cycling, outdoor adventure, and the honor council played a significant role in my high school journey. They provided specific opportunities for me to explore my interests and develop skills in areas such as physical fitness, leadership, and communication. Through these activities, I learned to be adaptable, resilient, and to work effectively in a team, which will be valuable skills in my future career as an engineer.
Throughout high school, I faced the challenge of balancing active extracurricular involvement with maintaining a high GPA. This required managing my time efficiently, prioritizing tasks, and occasionally making tough choices. However, this balancing act was not just about achieving academic success; it was about preparing for the multifaceted challenges of the real world. I learned that success requires more than just academic excellence; it demands practical skills like teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving cultivated through active engagement beyond the classroom.
Looking towards my future goal of becoming an engineer, I recognize the symbiotic relationship between a high GPA and practical skills honed through extracurricular activities. Engineering demands not only technical knowledge, reflected in academic achievements, but also practical skills that can only be obtained through active engagement. Through my involvement in extracurricular activities, I have gained valuable experience in teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. These skills will be crucial in my pursuit of a successful career in engineering, where I will need to work collaboratively with others and apply technical knowledge to real-world problems. Hence, I believe that my high school journey has provided me with a solid foundation for success in the future.
In conclusion, my high school journey has been a unique and fulfilling experience that has taught me the importance of a holistic approach to education. I have learned that success demands more than just academic excellence; it requires practical skills like leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving that can only be obtained through active engagement beyond the classroom. Through my involvement in extracurricular activities, I have gained valuable experience that will be crucial in my future pursuit of a career in engineering. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have enriched my high school journey and prepared me for the multifaceted challenges of the real world.
