When it comes to picking a college, there are 3 main things I look for. The most important is the education quality. The school I ended up choosing, The University of Pittsburgh has the 48th ranked engineering program in the country. It also has a top ranked civil engineering program which is what I am majoring in. One big factor of this is that the school is ABET accredited which is very important for engineering. Without this, it would be hard to find a job with a degree that comes from a school that is not ABET accredited.

The second factor when choosing a college is the surrounding area. When I choose Pitt, I looked at the safety of the surrounding area around the campus because when I go to school all I want to worry about is my course work. I don’t want to have to worry about things like being robbed, gun violence, etc. in the area of my school. And Pitt has a relatively safe area which makes me feel less worried when I want to go walk around the campus.

The last thing I look at which is important to me is the housing. When I go to classes and come back to my dorm/apartment I want to have a homey environment. It makes my feel more comfortable and able to work harder and not worry about small things. It also allows me more freedoms, such as being able to cook my own meals instead of dining hall food. Those were the 3 things I looked at when choosing colleges.
