School 'Sometimes' Comes First

Years and years we spend all for education, but is it all worth it? To me, it is, but this is not the case for all. I dream of being someone who is strong, smart, an inspiration, and a mentor. I have worked my whole life to become someone important to the future of innovation. On the other hand, I also enjoy the freedom of finding what interests me and how to explore my options. This is why I believe that school is ‘sometimes’ the most important.
There is a huge stigma behind the concept of how your GPA does not define you, and I do believe that to be true, yet I know how important having a high GPA can be. College applications, internship applications, and even scholarship applications mainly all revolve around what your GPA is. A GPA does not define how smart you are or what you are capable of, but it does help show how devoted, dedicated, and adaptable you can be during stressful times. Sometimes life can get rough and which causes you to fall below a desired GPA, which unfortunately will stay on your overall GPA forever. This statement also helps back up why school is ‘sometimes’ the most important. You must be well-rounded, you must have interest, you must give yourself a break. This is when having strong extracurriculars comes into the picture.
Extracurriculars are your freedom to be who you want to be. They allow you to explore careers, explore interests, and bond with people who are similar to you. Extracurriculars give you the ability to grow, to learn, to find yourself, and to become a well-rounded person. Having the ability to write down all the extra things you have done in life on a Resume or any type of application, will set you apart from others. I understand how important extracurriculars are in getting the ability to make you different and show your character, but they may also cause too many unnecessary distractions. I believe there is a happy medium because I was able to give myself a happy medium.
I have always been someone who does both school and extracurriculars. It has helped me become a devoted and driven person. I have learned plenty of lessons on how to maintain a good balanced life, which I believe helps me be prepared for the future. Extracurriculars help show someone’s true interest, hobbies, and even aspirations in life. I also believe that joining extracurriculars helps someone determine who they want to be in life. But, I would not say that extracurriculars should be put above maintaining a high GPA. Like stated before, I am someone who has always done both, meaning I understand when it is time to put school first. I understand what it is like to see yourself fall behind in school due to the stress that extracurriculars are ‘more important’. Extracurriculars help build character but a high GPA can get you to meet your career and academic goals, so when it comes down to it, I will always choose school over my extra interests.
