While engaging in extracurricular activities and maintaining a high GPA is ideal for all students, my priority leans towards achieving a high GPA. Although I aspire to be more involved in extracurriculars for personal enjoyment and networking, the rigorous pursuit through academia has equipped me with many essential skills.

I want to note that I don’t view achieving a high GPA as a singular objective, I prefer to concentrate on understanding the material and applying my knowledge to classroom projects. In doing so, I’ve discovered that effective time management is the key to academic success. Initiating work early allows me the time to ask questions and practice more on challenging problems. Notably, a side effect of a good academic work ethic provides critical thinking and quick problem-solving.

Maintaining a high GPA demonstrates discipline and requires significant time and dedication to tackle various complex topics and applications simultaneously. This multifaceted effort is a skill on its own, contributing to acquiring hard skills and knowledge through academic rigor. These assets, cultivated through rigorous coursework, serve as valuable foundations that seamlessly translate into a professional career. Thus, the GPA achieved by a student becomes a tangible reflection of the dedicated effort invested in their coursework.

While I prioritize maintaining a high GPA, I acknowledge that this pursuit has not been without its challenges. Overcoming difficult moments in my academic journey has been integral to my personal growth, fortifying my resilience in the face of adversity. These experiences not only shape my commitment to academic excellence but also equip me with the determination to face future challenges in my chosen field. The discipline and skills cultivated through the pursuit of a high GPA are not only academic achievements but cornerstones of my personal and professional development.

Having a high GPA not only serves as an academic achievement but also holds financial benefits, particularly through the acquisition of merit scholarships. A strong academic record enhances eligibility for various scholarship opportunities, alleviating the financial burden of education and providing valuable support for pursuing academic goals. When I received a merit scholarship two years ago and onwards, I was able to work fewer hours and spend more time during professor office hours and study groups.

While employers desire candidates with both a high GPA and strong extracurricular involvement, some students, including myself, face the challenge of deciding where to direct their focus. The financial demands of working outside my class and study time make it a challenge to participate in extracurricular activities with my peers. Extracurriculars can be time-consuming. While they offer valuable experiences in leadership, networking, and personal development, I prioritize the classes that are crucial for ensuring success in my future career. Balancing academic excellence and extracurricular engagement requires thoughtful consideration, and for me, maintaining a high GPA remains a priority for achieving my long-term goals.
