About your economics tutor

My name is Saumya, and I am a passionate Economics educator with more than five years of professional teaching experience across diverse international curricula. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching students from different parts of the world, helping them excel in competitive and challenging academic programs such as AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, IB Economics (HL and SL), IGCSE Economics, GCSE Economics, and A-Level Economics. My teaching journey has been driven by the vision of not only preparing students for exams but also enabling them to understand Economics as a subject that explains the real-world functioning of markets, governments, businesses, and societies. Subjects I Teach I specialize in teaching: AP Macroeconomics – covering key areas such as national income accounting, aggregate demand and supply, fiscal and monetary policies, international trade, and exchange rates. AP Microeconomics – focusing on demand and supply analysis, consumer and producer theory, market structures, factor markets, and efficiency/equity issues. IB Economics (HL and SL) – teaching both microeconomics and macroeconomics along with international economics and development economics, while also guiding students with their Internal Assessments(IAs) and Extended Essays (EEs). IGCSE and GCSE Economics – helping students develop foundational knowledge in market functioning, production, government policies, and global economic interactions. A-Level Economics – covering advanced theories of micro and macroeconomics, preparing students for higher studies in economics, business, and related fields.

Economics class quick guide

I am an experienced Economics and Finance tutor, specializing in AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics for both school and college students. With over five years of teaching expertise, I have helped students achieve excellent academic results while also developing a strong, practical understanding of the subject. My teaching style is interactive, supportive, and problem-solving oriented. I believe that Economics should not just be about memorizing theories but about seeing how those theories explain real-world issues. To make concepts relatable, I use practical examples, business simulation games, interactive economic models, and case study databases. By linking lessons to real-life scenarios such as global trade, inflation trends, or financial markets, students gain deeper insights into the subject. I also tailor my lessons to each student’s interests, incorporating case studies that connect with their goals. Together, we can build strong analytical skills, improve exam performance, and make learning Economics both fun and meaningful!

Economics concept taught by Saumya

Ruan learned about 1 month ago

Saumya provided support to Ruan on August 6, 2025, for a macroeconomics exam problem involving IS and LM curves. Their lesson covered a review of key concepts and formulas, followed by working through a practice question to determine taxes (T) and the interest rate (R). Although Ruan initially struggled, Saumya's guidance led him to the correct solution for 'r'. They intend to complete the problem, including calculations for money supply (M) and savings levels, in an upcoming lesson.

Saumya provided Ruan with a lesson in game theory, specifically on finding best response functions, but Ruan found the mathematical complexity overwhelming. Feeling overwhelmed, they opted to switch to International Finance and Monetary Economics for their upcoming lesson, a topic Ruan finds more interesting, and Ruan will resend the relevant materials.

Saumya Pandey tutored Ruan Opperman in a game theory lesson, delving into sequential games, extensive form representation, subgame perfect Nash equilibrium, and backward induction. They collaboratively worked through examples, such as constructing game trees and payoff tables. Their plan was to continue the lesson the next day to finish a problem on strategic interdependence and incomplete information.

Saumya is guiding Ruan through game theory concepts, specifically tackling a problem where three players decide whether to exert effort. They've been calculating payoffs for various strategy combinations and identifying Nash equilibria by determining if any player has an incentive to deviate. Having already pinpointed some equilibria, their analysis of the problem continues.

Saumya and Ruan dedicated time to reviewing game theory, focusing on essential concepts like dominant strategies, Nash equilibrium, and various game types. They utilized a past exam paper as a practical guide, working through problems that involved payoff matrices and iterated deletion. Their plan for the next lesson is to advance to game tree problems, and Ruan will also be sending additional exam papers to Saumya.

Saumya and Ruan collaborated on corporate finance questions, specifically analyzing financing strategies and calculating YTM, market values, cost of equity via CAPM, and WACC. Ruan practiced applying formulas and interpreting financial data. They discussed potentially rescheduling the next session due to Ruan's travel plans and agreed to cover game theory next time.
