Nazia - Know your tutor
Hi, I'm Nazia Rahman, a passionate educator with a diverse background in mechanical engineering, supply chain management, and data science. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with prominent companies like Entercoms Software Ltd, Atlas Copco (India) Ltd, and Cummins India Ltd, where I developed strong skills in data analysis, strategic planning, and process optimization. However, my greatest passion has always been teaching. With experience teaching subjects like mechanical engineering, mathematics, and physics, I understand how to break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand lessons that engage students of all levels. I specialize in teaching Python, SQL, and Microsoft Excel, using real-world examples and hands-on activities to make learning interactive and fun. I love connecting theoretical knowledge to practical applications, helping students see the value of what they’re learning in real life. Teaching gives me immense joy, especially when I see that moment of clarity on a student’s face when something finally "clicks." My approach is focused on creating a supportive, personalized learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. Every student is unique, so I tailor my lessons to their specific needs, ensuring they not only grasp the material but also gain the confidence to apply their skills independently. My goal is to inspire my students to develop a love for learning while equipping them with the tools they need to succeed academically and in their careers. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills in coding, data analysis, or technical subjects, I’m here to help you every step of the way. Let’s learn, grow, and achieve your goals together!

Programming class overview
My teaching approach is all about making learning engaging, accessible, and tailored to each student's unique needs. I believe that the best way to learn complex subjects like Python, SQL, Excel, or even mechanical engineering and mathematics is by simplifying the material and connecting it to real-world examples that students can easily relate to. I like to start by understanding each student’s learning style and goals. Whether you prefer visual aids, step-by-step walkthroughs, or practical problem-solving, I tailor my lessons to suit your needs. My goal is to break down intimidating concepts into smaller, manageable pieces, so students can build their knowledge one step at a time without feeling overwhelmed. Hands-on learning is at the core of my teaching methodology. I encourage students to practice what they learn through real-world scenarios and exercises. Whether it’s writing Python code, querying a SQL database, or working with Excel spreadsheets, I guide students through interactive tasks that help solidify their understanding. This method helps students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain the confidence to apply their skills independently. I also believe in creating a supportive and open learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. No question is too small, and I always encourage curiosity. My focus is on helping students build critical thinking skills and a problem-solving mindset, so they can tackle challenges with confidence even outside the classroom. Another key aspect of my methodology is the use of feedback and continuous improvement. Ultimately, I aim to inspire my students by making learning enjoyable and relevant.

Computer Science concepts taught by Nazia
The class covered a comprehensive range of Microsoft Excel functionalities, from basic formatting and simple calculations to advanced functions like IF, text manipulation (CONCATENATE, LEFT, RIGHT, MID), conditional formatting, and data validation. The student practiced applying these functions and concepts with the tutor's guidance, and the next session will focus on pivot tables and pivot charts with larger datasets.
Basic Excel Formulas: Addition
Multiplication
and Auto-Fill
Common Excel Functions: SUM
AVERAGE
MAX
MIN
COUNT and COUNTA Functions
Pivot Tables in Excel
VLOOKUP Function in Excel
Data Organization for Analysis
The student and tutor worked on cleaning a large dataset in Excel, using filters and the find/replace function. They then proceeded to create pivot tables and charts to analyze sales data by gender and channel, constructing a basic dashboard. The session also covered Excel formulas for date manipulation, slicers for interactive filtering, conditional formatting, and data validation techniques.
Data Cleaning with Filters and Find & Replace
Creating Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts
Building a Dashboard with Multiple Charts
Extracting Month from Dates using TEXT Formula
Data Validation and Conditional Formatting
The student and tutor focused on using pivot tables in Google Sheets to summarize and analyze company sales data. They practiced creating pivot tables, generating various charts from them, and assembling these into a dashboard for reporting. The session aimed to build the student's proficiency in data analysis and visualization.
Pivot Tables: The Foundation
Summarizing Data with Pivot Tables
Leveraging Filters in Pivot Tables
Visualizing Data with Pivot Charts
Creating Dashboards for Reporting
The student and tutor worked through practical Excel exercises, reinforcing the IF function for conditional results and then learning text manipulation functions like CONCATENATE and the '&' operator. They also briefly discussed LEFT, RIGHT, and MID functions, with plans to cover pivot tables and conditional formatting in future sessions.
LEFT
RIGHT
and MID Functions for Text Extraction
CONCATENATE and Ampersand (&) for Joining Text
IF Function for Conditional Logic
The Student and Tutor reviewed basic and advanced Excel formulas, including sum, average, max, min, count, counta, and if functions. The Student practiced applying these functions to perform calculations and conditional logic in sample worksheets. The tutor assigned practice problems on the 'if' function and introduced VLOOKUP for the next session, with the relevant materials to be sent in advance.
