How To Add Videos To Scratch Projects?

The steps for adding videos to your Scratch projects are simple and very straightforward. The detailed steps on how to do this are explained below:

  • Step 1: Copy the video URL you want to add to your Scratch project. For example, if you want to add a video from YouTube, copy the URL by right-clicking on it.
  • Step 2: If you want to add a part of the video and not the whole thing, or if the copy-pasting of the URL is resulting in a large file, then you can simply record your screen while playing the video or the part of the video you want. There are chrome extensions you can add to your chrome browser or use any free online website to record your screen. In this article, we used the Chrome extension called “screen recorder.”
  • Step 3: Convert your video to gif format so that it can be uploaded to your Scratch project. You can use any online free converter website like ezgif.com.
  • Step 4: Paste the URL or upload the video, click on Convert to GIF, and save it to your computer.
  • Step 5: Next, open the Scratch editor.
  • Step 6: In the new Scratch project, upload the GIF by clicking on the upload icon in the sprite category.

  • Step 7: Uploading the GIF file might take some time depending on the length and size of the GIF. Once the GIF is uploaded, you need to program the GIF into the Scratch project. See the video below to know the code to program the GIF.
  • Step 8: To code, you need to use “switch costume to ()” and change the option to the starting point of your video. Then create a forever loop so the video plays seamlessly after a few seconds.
