About the tutor
Hello! I'm Jeffrey Akhareyi, a Mathematics tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. My teaching philosophy revolves around making math fun and approachable for students of all levels. I believe in simplifying complex concepts and fostering a strong foundation in Elementary School Math, Geometry, High School Math, Middle School Math, Algebra, and Math. With a focus on student engagement, I tailor my teaching strategies to suit individual learning styles. I encourage active participation, critical thinking, and practical application of mathematical concepts. My goal is to empower students to confidently tackle math problems and develop a lifelong love for the subject. Let's embark on a mathematical journey together and unlock your full potential! My tutoring sessions usually range from 15 minutes to 2 hours. I usually go over homework that my students have and I am very methodical when it comes to teaching my students how to solve problems. I then come up with similar example problems and I will have my students try to solve the problems on their own just to see if they are able to apply what they learned. I actually work as a systems engineer for a defense contractor and in this job, I deal with weapon system requirements.

Teaching methodology
My teaching methodology is built around the principles of active learning, where students are not passive recipients of information but active participants in constructing their own understanding. I focus on creating a dynamic classroom environment that emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world application of concepts. My goal is to make learning interactive, engaging, and relevant to students’ lives, promoting a deeper grasp of the subject matter. Key Strategies: 1. Interactive Discussions and Debates: I use thought-provoking questions and structured discussions to encourage students to voice their opinions, challenge assumptions, and think critically about the material. 2. Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Lessons are often designed around complex, real-world problems that students need to solve in small groups, fostering teamwork and a hands-on approach to learning. 3. Student-Led Activities: I empower students to take on leadership roles in presenting topics, leading group activities, and even designing parts of their own learning experience. 4. Use of Educational Technology: I incorporate digital tools like simulations, online collaboration platforms, and interactive media to facilitate learning beyond traditional classroom boundaries. 5. Frequent Formative Assessments: I use low-stakes assessments, such as quick quizzes, peer reviews, and reflective journaling, to track student progress and tailor my teaching based on their evolving needs.
