Hello! I'm Jennifer Akdemir, a dedicated English tutor with a Bachelor's degree in English, Spanish, and Religious Studies. My teaching philosophy focuses on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel motivated to excel. I specialize in ESL, IELTS, and general English, catering to teenage and adult/professional students. I'm also well-travelled and well-read and interested in language and culture - I have lived and worked in Slovakia, Türkiye, China and Spain. I am a language student myself, and understand the kinds of struggles that language learners face. My student engagement strategies include personalized learning plans, making the lesson as interactive as possible and providing constructive feedback so that students feel that they are improving. I like to work with students and adapt to any changes they need to our learning programme. I prepare students for IELTS and for job interviews and presentations, as well as for Cambridge and Trinity English Language exams. As an ESL, IELTS, and English tutor, I cater my teaching methodology to students of all levels, including school, college, and adult/professional learners. My approach is interactive, hands-on, and practical, focusing on creative and concept-focused learning. I believe in paying attention to detail and making sure that students have fully understand the material or a particular point before moving on. It's possible to both zero in on detail also elaborate on a topic to ensure a deeper understanding of the subject matter and provide a richer learning experience. While tutoring, I aim to improve writing and analysis skills whether helping students succeed in high school and college admissions essays or in preparing presentations for use in a professional context. I select reading materials based on students' preferred genres, ranging from fiction to technical writing, and incorporate multimedia resources like video analyses of literary texts. Drawing from my studies in literary analysis and effective communication strategies, I strive to enhance reading comprehension in a dynamic and engaging way, using my own experience of academic reading and writing and employing standard reading for gist and for detail techniques.
