Hello! I'm Mark, a passionate English tutor who completed English courses in high school, college, and graduate school. In 2022, I completed a PhD in Psychology based on studies of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, for which I completed a dissertation. Currently, I am in the final year of medical school and will graduate from Harvard Medical School in 2025. Over the course of more than 10 years as an English tutor, I have developed a teaching style that has served students well. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for students of all levels. I believe in personalized attention and tailored lesson plans to cater to individual learning styles and needs. I specialize in tutoring SAT Verbal, ACT English, ACT Reading, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, ACT Writing, English, and GMAT Verbal Reasoning for students at all levels. My teaching style is concept-focused, detailed, interactive, engaging, problem-solving, structured, and systematic. I assess each student's reading and writing abilities to create a personalized plan to help them excel in literature analysis and writing. With a background in literary analysis and effective communication strategies, I focus on enhancing reading comprehension for academic success and beyond. During early lessons with students, I focus on building rapport and establishing trust and a mutually agreed upon plan for how to best empower students to achieve their goals. From there, we develop a plan with measurable goals along the way to ensure that we have milestones that we can take inventory of during the process. Ultimately, recognizing that classes, test prep, and applications are stressful and time-intensive enough on their own, my goal is to alleviate those burdens and make tutoring sessions something that students look forward to and consider a valuable use of time and energy.
