Math Maverick: Making Numbers Fun and Understandable!

Hello there! I'm Tammy Scouten, a passionate mathematics tutor with a Master's degree in School Administration. My teaching philosophy revolves around making math accessible and enjoyable for all students. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. When it comes to student engagement, I love incorporating real-world examples and interactive activities into my lessons. Whether it's exploring the angles in a basketball shot or using trigonometry to solve everyday problems, I strive to show students the practical applications of math in the world around them. With a focus on Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra, I cater to students at the school and college levels. I am dedicated to helping my students build a strong foundation in mathematics and develop the problem-solving skills they need to succeed. Let's tackle math together and make learning an exciting journey! In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, and kayaking. I have five kids and five dogs.I have a deep passion for animal rescue. I also like to read psychological thrillers. Another passion of mine is music. I love most types of music and must have it playing while I drive. I would like to get to know you and your passions.

I believe in making learning fun and engaging for my students, especially when it comes to Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra. I use puzzles and interactive math games to reinforce learning in an enjoyable way. My classes focus on clearing doubts and building a strong conceptual foundation. Many of my students have successfully gained admission to top universities for math-intensive fields like engineering, physics, and economics. I believe the purpose of education is not simply the cultivation of intellect; but also help students to develop personal and social values, encourage a sense of citizenship to bring about change in our world with their unique insights and abilities, and ultimately develop students as life-long learners with the ability to reflect on their growth and maximize their potential. As an educator, I see my role as a facilitator to guide students’ search for knowledge rather than a transmitter of information. I accomplish this through discovery learning, collaborative learning, problem based learning, and real world, interdisciplinary when possible, experiences. Classrooms should be student-centered. From classroom procedures to instructional strategies, students will be more successful emotionally and intellectually when they have a sense of ownership. To achieve this, teachers need to establish rapport and mutual respect. I am a firm believer that rapport and respect are the strongest foundation for any successful classroom. Teaching provides me the opportunity for continual learning and growth. With each new set of students come fresh ideas and original questions. I became a teacher to make a difference and share my enthusiasm of learning in a way that I hope is contagious.
