About your tutor
I am a Senior at Carnegie Mellon University studying Mathematical Sciences and Music Technology. I enjoy working with students on math and music-related subjects. For math, I have a 5 for AB Calc, BC Calc and Statistics. 790 for SAT math subject test, and 800 on the SAT math portion. I was also classically trained as a pianist and have won third prize at the International Steinway Piano Competition (south China region) in 2015 and special nomination for the International Chopin Competition (Connecticut) in 2019. For piano tutoring, I can compose individualized scores for each student as their practice material or help students find the music they enjoy to play.

Teaching methodology
In a typical first session, I would assess the student's background in the subject and understand their goals. Then, I would develop a tailored learning plan to guide our sessions. To help a student become an independent learner, I will emphasize fundamental concepts, enabling them to build their ideas on solid principles. I will use Socratic questioning to encourage critical thinking and guide them to discover answers themselves. Additionally, I will help them develop the habit of breaking down complex problems into manageable parts, fostering problem-solving skills and self-reliance. I will help students stay motivated by consistently encouraging them when they show improvement or successfully complete assignments. This positive reinforcement will boost their confidence and help them tackle more challenging problems with enthusiasm. If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I would review the previously covered material and guide the student step by step to identify where they are having trouble. This approach helps pinpoint the specific area of confusion and allows us to address it effectively.
