About your tutor

I am a musician, singer-songwriter, audio engineer, and educator. I have a B.M. in Sound Recording Technology (Class of 2022) from Syracuse University, focusing on classical voice. I have been teaching guitar for about five years now to students of various ages and proficiency levels. I spend a lot of time designing curriculums for my students to become the best version of themselves and achieve their goals. I am a musician for hire – most notably, I have been singing and playing bass for shows at 54 Below for the past few months. Lastly, I am a singer-songwriter who has performed styles ranging from folk to rock and metal for the last four years. I can teach/coach a wide range of genres and styles up to an intermediate-advanced.

Teaching methodology

My teaching methodology is similar to that of the Suzuki method. I like to make the lessons fun, starting with songs and artists they enjoy, and give the student some background of music before getting into too much theory (e.g. how does it sound for a pitch to go up, down, or stay the same). I will always meet a student where they are at and help them feel comfortable trying something that may be a bit difficult. In our demo lessons, I would gauge where you're at musically before deciding where to start. Absolute beginner demo lessons would entail: going over the anatomy of the guitar, basic fingering patterns, warm ups to promote longevity and dexterity, and basic musical terminology. I like to give examples and anecdotes, easy to remember acronyms and analogies, and the lessons are all based on your goals and what you want to achieve. More advanced students will be able to work on new techniques they might be interested in, and get coaching on the songs they love. If a student needs help with music theory, I will be able to assist with homework, test prep, and any other assignments.
