Shlomi - Violin teacher
I am a professional violinist and currently study at the Royal Academy of Music in London with distinguished Professor Robin Wilson. I have been playing the violin since the age of four and have had the opportunity to study in several different musical environments, including Ukraine, Russia and the United Kingdom. This international background has given me a broad understanding of different violin traditions, teaching methods and approaches to musical interpretation. During my studies, I worked with teachers and professors who were deeply connected to the great traditions of the Ukrainian and Russian violin schools, including teachers who studied with or were assistants to important figures such as David Oistrakh and Leonid Kogan. At the same time, my current studies in London have introduced me to different approaches to technique, sound production, musicality and performance. I have also taken masterclasses with internationally recognised violinists and teachers, which has allowed me to learn from a wide range of musical perspectives. My teaching philosophy is that every student is different. I do not believe there is one technique or one method that works for everyone. I first try to understand the student’s personality, goals, level, musical interests and the difficulties they are experiencing. I then adapt my approach accordingly, whether the student wants to prepare for an exam, competition, audition, performance, improve their technique, or simply enjoy playing the violin.

Violin concepts taught by Shlomi
The Student and Tutor focused on enhancing violin bowing technique, specifically addressing right-hand tension, bow hold, wrist engagement, and elbow positioning for different strings. They practiced scales and open strings to apply these concepts. The next session will concentrate on third position technique, preparing the Student for an upcoming test.
Right-Hand Relaxation & Automation
Dynamic Elbow Position
Secure Bow Grip & Finger Engagement
Wrist Engagement for Bowing Smoothness
Bow Hair Angle for Richer Tone
Student and Tutor focused on improving violin left-hand technique, addressing issues of tension, finger stickiness, and resonance. They practiced correct hand positioning, subtle elbow movements, and exercises designed to isolate finger action and promote a relaxed, round hand shape. Future plans include practicing scales, grade-specific exercises, and more advanced pieces to reinforce the learned techniques.
Strategic Elbow Adjustment for String Changes
Foundational Practice: Scales and Targeted Exercises
First Position Stability: Avoiding Unnecessary Wrist Movement
Cultivating String Resonance through Hand Shape
Finger Isolation and High Lifting Drill
Correct Left Hand Posture: The "Apple" Shape
The Student and Tutor focused on refining violin technique, primarily through practicing A major and G major scales with an emphasis on right-hand bow grip and wrist flexibility. They worked on specific exercises for bow control, proper posture, and the use of the entire bow, while also discussing the importance of consistent playing during mistakes. The Tutor recommended listening to a Chakovsky piece for inspiration and for the Student to note down the right-hand techniques for future practice.

The Art of Full Bow Usage
The Student and Tutor focused on foundational violin technique, specifically enhancing bow hold and right-hand control. They practiced applying new techniques to G major scales, including correct elbow positioning, full bow usage, and smooth string changes. The session concluded with a plan to concentrate on G, D, and A major/minor scales for continued technical development.
