🎸 Learn Guitar, Build Confidence & Enjoy Every Note with Fun, Personalised Lessons!

Hi, I’m Ryan Upward, an online guitar tutor with over 9 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Guitar Education from BIMM University Bristol. I specialise in Electric, Acoustic, Classical and Bass Guitar, and I really enjoy helping students build their skills, confidence and enjoyment of playing. I’ve performed extensively across the UK and Europe with function, tribute, original and cover bands, playing styles including rock, metal, progressive metal, blues, jazz, country and pop. I’ve performed at festivals and large events, supported artists including Toploader and Example, and have experience writing, recording and performing original music. Playing live has taught me a lot about timing, rhythm, dynamics, tone, listening and adapting to different musical situations. These are all things I bring into my lessons. I’ve also completed Rockschool grades from Grade 1 through to Grade 8, giving me experience with structured learning and exam preparation. I can help with chords, fingerstyle, picking and strumming, music theory, ear training, fretboard knowledge, scales, arpeggios, modes, soloing, improvisation, rhythm, phrasing and songwriting. I particularly enjoy helping students understand how these areas fit together, so they learn not just what to play, but why. Every student is different, so I tailor lessons around your goals and interests. Whether you’re completely new to guitar, working towards a grade, learning your favourite songs, improving your technique or exploring a new style, I’ll help you progress in a relaxed and supportive environment. My goal is simple: to make lessons enjoyable, useful and inspiring, while helping you become the guitarist and musician you want to be!
