Andrea - Your piano teacher
My name is Andrea Hoyos. I graduated from the Jazz Piano and Popular Music program at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. I currently work as a pianist, producer, and teacher, and I have been teaching piano and developing my own methodology for the past 13 years. I enjoy teaching both people who are just starting out and those who want to deepen their existing knowledge. I am especially drawn to slow, deep, and continuous learning processes, where the piano becomes a tool for active listening, understanding music, and developing a close relationship with sound. One of my specialties is creating personalized arrangements of my students’ favorite songs, adapting them to their level and interests. I love finding creative ways for each student to play the music they connect with while gradually developing their technique, musical understanding, and confidence. I want each person to approach music through play and curiosity. I have worked with students of different ages and levels, both in Colombia and abroad, and I adapt each lesson to each person’s sensitivity, interests, and pace. Some people come looking for technique; others, creativity; and others simply for a space to make music. Everyone is welcome.

Piano concepts taught by Andrea
The Tutor and Student focused on piano theory and practical application. They reviewed major and minor chord construction through half-step intervals, practiced playing chords and bass lines using the Cordify application, and worked through exercises from a lesson book that covered dynamics, repetition signs, bass clef notes, and improvisation. Homework was assigned, including daily Cordify practice, internalizing a chosen song for repertoire, specific lesson book pages, and practicing the C major scale with a metronome. The Student was also instructed to download an app for future lessons.
