About your chess coach
I started teaching chess in 2022 while leading the chess club at Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research. During those three years, I worked with beginners, casual players, and students preparing for college tournaments through one to one and small group sessions. I learned early that two players with the same rating often struggle for different reasons. One student rushed every position without calculating. Another spent too much time searching for perfect moves and lost on the clock. Those differences changed how I planned every lesson. Before each session, I reviewed the student's recent games instead of following a fixed syllabus. I looked for recurring mistakes, whether they came from calculation, tactical awareness, endgame technique, opening choices, or poor decision making under time pressure. The next lesson focused on those positions rather than generic examples. I asked students to explain what they were thinking before I gave my feedback because I wanted to understand how they reached a move, not only whether it was correct. Outside class, I guided students on how to practice with purpose. I recommended puzzle themes based on their weaknesses, encouraged post game self analysis before using an engine, and assigned training positions instead of asking them to play endless online games. Alongside coaching, I organised tournaments, prepared training material, conducted weekly chess sessions, and mentored students as Director of the college chess club for three years. My own experience as an active tournament player continues to influence my teaching, since many lessons come from mistakes I have made and later understood through analysis.
