ABOUT Siyuan Carter-Patkau (she/they) is an emerging soprano currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Western University, where she studies with Patricia Green. As a singer, Siyuan’s primary interests are early music and new music. She has participated in Western University’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, under the direction of Patricia Green and Paul Frehner. In 2025, she traveled to Switzerland for the SoundSCAPE new music program. Siyuan has participated in other international programs such as Accademie de Fourvière in Lyon, France, and Accademia Europea dell'Opera in Lucca, Italy. As part of AEDO, she made her operatic debut as Arminda in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera, directed by Mariano Furlani. Other theatrical roles include Giannetta in Elisir d'Amore by Donizetti, directed by Anna Theodosakis, and Romilda in Serse by Handel, directed by Nina Scott-Stoddart. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY I believe in meeting students where they are at. Together, we collaborate to form both short- and long-term goals. These can be small things like mastering a new technique, or bigger things like passing an RCM examination. I aim to bring joy to my teaching, and I hope to imbue my students with the same. Through music and music performance, we both give and receive the gift of vulnerability. I expect the students with whom I work to uphold the values of respect, honesty, kindness, and professionalism. In working together, I trust that we can all create a space that is conducive to learning, including having the freedom to make mistakes and try new things. It is important to me to maintain a studio that is judgement-free and based in community. My studio has been in operation since 2020.
