Hello! I've ben coaching kids in voice for about a year and I love it. I'm inspired by Natalie Weiss, 1108 Vocal Studio, Claire Hosterman and Power to Sing on YouTube. My singing history includes pop, musical theatre and spiritual music as well as classical and jazz in my college studies. I'm particularly fascinated by and compelled to help students going through voice changes and supporting them through that difficult phase, but I welcome learners of all ages! My passion is curriculum and making lessons interactive and fun. During a lesson we may start with a quick mental check in and then move to physical warm-ups. We'll identify your goals for the lesson and move into a vocal warm-up. I encourage you to have a whiteboard and markers or pencil and paper for the next sections. We'll do some exercises to improve rhythm, pitch and sense of beat. We'll also work on improvisation and composition skills as this aids in your overall musicianship and ability to be flexible in your musical endeavors. Then we will move on to your repertoire and do smoothing exercises and vocalizing if necessary. I like repertoire to be somewhat challenging. It shouldn't be so similar to what a learner would choose for themselves that it becomes limiting, but also not so different that the student is bored and wastes time on unneeded skills.
