Jack - Get to know your vocal coach
I am a musical theatre performer and singer/musician with experience as a music director and music teacher in both private and group lessons. I have taught all skill levels and ages, from the age of 4 to adult students. I have taught students who have never sung before as well as students applying to college/university programs, and currently pursuing a career in theatre or music. I understand that singing is a personal experience and that all students require a customized lesson plan in order to best improve. I have been specializing in musical theatre, both in vocal style and in performance technique, and have been focusing on actor-musician work, both as a performer myself and researching how playing instruments impact the voice. I am a firm believer that it’s never too late (or early) to start music, and focus on a supportive approach. As an instrumentalist, I consider music theory to be an important part of music lessons, including sight-singing, understanding rhythms, scale degrees, and other expressive techniques such as backphrasing and improvisation. As a trans vocalist, I have experience with changing voices, especially afab students taking testosterone. I have also worked as a composer/lyricist, and would be happy to offer feedback on writing development.

Singing concepts taught by Jack
The student and Tutor focused on foundational singing techniques to improve the student's melodic range and vocal control for R&B, hip-hop, and pop music. They practiced vocal warm-ups, explored the impact of vowel sounds on note stability, and applied these concepts to the student's original songwriting. The session concluded with a plan for continued practice on vocal blending and dynamic control.

Embracing Vocal Instability for Growth
The Student and Tutor conducted an introductory singing lesson focused on understanding the Student's vocal goals, current repertoire, and technical needs for upcoming auditions. They practiced breathing and vocal support exercises, applying them to "America the Beautiful" and "I Could Have Danced All Night." Follow-up plans include working on specific audition songs, selecting new material that showcases the Student's range, and developing performance quality.
