Jody - Know your guitar teacher
I am Jody Houle, a seasoned guitar player and guitar teacher. I have an associates degree in English, with guitar theory as an elective. I learned guitar and bass, as well as some percussion and a little piano at a very young age -- 11 years old! I play rhythm, lead, acoustic and electric guitar. I have a repertoir of students under my belt that have gone on to become fine players. I customize and personalize for lessons for each student, and pin-point their strenghts and weaknesses. For beginners, I start with teaching tuning by ear and right hand (or left) strengthening for picking, strumming and fingerstyle techniques, while starting them off with a basic chord or two. Once their picking and strumming gets better (first week or two), I move on to chords followed by a simple blues riff. I incorporate teaching all of the sharps and flats on the fretboard and eventually move on to bar chords. Throughout the lessons, I explain the language of major, minor, notes, frets, octaves, half-steps and whole-steps. As the student progresses, I introduce some theory with scales, modes, I work patiently with students and repeat and review every week while giving them "homework" assignments.
