Guitar concepts taught by Neale

Student learned 2 days ago

The Student and Tutor addressed the Student's frustrations with a "twangy" G chord and clarified the structural components of the song "Island in the Sun," distinguishing between triad and full chord usage for different sections. They practiced scales, reviewed dominant 7 chords, worked on bar chord techniques, and discussed the function of a capo. Homework includes practicing the corrected "Island in the Sun" parts and the newly introduced bar chord shapes, with the next session rescheduled for two weeks later.

Student and Tutor began by reviewing foundational guitar concepts, including string names, the musical alphabet, and the chromatic scale. They then practiced previously learned E and A major/minor chords and their transitions, along with refining strumming technique and proper hand posture. The session introduced new open chords—D, G, and C major—which the Student practiced playing and transitioning between. For homework, the Student was assigned to continue practicing note identification on the fretboard, master all learned chord transitions, and select five songs they wish to learn.
