Pete - Your piano teacher
Hi, my name is Pete and I absolutely love teaching. I also absolutely love music, and have been a professional musician and teacher for 30 years. I started with the piano at age 6, and almost immediately began improvising and composing, and have been doing so ever since. I began learning the guitar and bass at 14, (and harmonica now I think of it!), then went into production / tech at 18, using initially tracker programs, then logic on pc, then cubase, then logic and ableton on mac. I then realised I wanted to do music professionally, and went to study music and teaching at Westminster University, where I met many brilliant musicians and started playing in several bands, touring all over the world, particularly in europe and India. I also then began teaching 1-1, and in schools and colleges in London, before moving to Bristol 15 years ago. My teaching style is unique, in the sense that I focus on what the student really wants to learn, yet still incorporating all the necessary techniques and music theory which are needed (and are actually fascinating if taught in the right way), as well as encouraging but not insisting on grades and exams, which are a great focus, improve technique and confidence on the instrument, and also count towards UCAS points. So I avoid the old style of teaching which can put students off (have you done your practice have you done your practice...), and constantly focusing on mistakes, and make the lessons a highly enjoyable exchange whilst also aiming for mastery of the instrument and high marks in any exams. I have worked and collaborated with many professionals throughout my career including Ninjatune artists, Bristol legends such as Massive Attack and Krust, sound design company Echoic Audio, the MC duo Too Many Ts, and world famous hang duo Hang Massive.
