Owen - Your piano teacher
My name is Owen Dodd, and I'm fresh out of my undergrad with new ideas, experience, and a drive to make music fun for others. In my experience at Ouachita Baptist University, I performed more than 30 piano pieces in concert, competed in several competitions, performed chamber works, and participated in large ensembles as a soloist. In my lessons I typically focus on technical development in the earlier stages of piano studies, but I also recognize that there are several avenues which are essential to the piano tradition. Concepts that I find more important at this stage of learning are scales/arpeggios, basic theory, and pedaling finger placement. As students, I introduce new concepts such as improvisation, pedaling techniques, and sight-reading, which makes piano a world of fun! When it comes to repertoire/teaching materials, I am open-minded; I am aware that learning often accelerates when students play things they want to play. That being said, I suggest a well-rounded curriculum of books that includes basic theory books, hymnals, and folk-songs from beginner's reading books. Piano is one of the most rewarding aspects of my life. It could be for yours too! Contact me to inquire if my lessons are right for you.
