Carmela - Get to know your vocal coach
Hello! My name is Carmela Piraino AKA Nina. I have been working for the NYC Department of Education since 2002. Since then I have always been involved in teaching voice and drama techniques to beginner students. My experience includes drama and vocal productions in the Dept of Ed, summer camp and in after school centers during my time at the YMCA. My specialties include voice techniques, drama techniques, stage production, props management, playwriting, teaching students on the autism spectrum and teaching students with a focus on foreign language. As a LaGuardia High School alumni, I was exposed to musical theater and performing arts at a very young age. I would be remiss not to mention my wonderful voice coach who I began lessons with at just 9 years of age! It was she who taught me stage presence, pitch, harmony and above all the confidence to take on songs I felt were beyond my vocal range. Overall music has saved my life. It gave me purpose when my tests were being handed back to me stickerless and marked with a sad face. I believe in the importance of multiple intelligences and that musical intelligence holds as much merit as academic intelligence. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and embarking on a wonderful musical journey with you!
