Singing concepts taught by Ivory
The Student and Tutor worked on vocal warm-ups, including 8-note scales and a pitch-matching exercise. They then focused on refining two songs: "Runaway," addressing specific phrasing and rhythmic challenges in verses and the pre-chorus, and "Fairy Tale," adjusting the key for comfort and beginning to tackle a complex second verse. Homework was assigned to practice the difficult lines from both "Runaway" and "Fairy Tale."

Vocal Warm-ups: Expanding Range and Agility
The Student and Tutor analyzed differences between studio and live vocal performances, discussing the effects of autotune and exploring how to apply these insights to practice. They practiced singing a familiar song using the "la" syllable for pitch accuracy and engaged in breath support exercises to enhance vocal endurance and ease. Homework includes continued breath exercises and practicing vowel elongation for smoother vocal transitions.

The Student and Tutor engaged in a singing lesson, starting with vocal warm-ups focusing on head voice transition, nasal singing, and exploring the lower vocal register. They practiced three songs—"Counting Stars," "Runaway," and "Fairy Tale"—receiving feedback on rhythm, pitch accuracy, and breath control. The Student was assigned to practice clapping along, using staccato singing, listening to specific song sections, and being consistent with breathing points.

The Student and Tutor focused on foundational singing techniques including pitch matching, ear training, and vocal warm-ups. They explored vocal registers and the relationship between vowel sounds, mouth placement, and resonance using an International Phonetic Alphabet chart. The Student practiced singing a familiar song to identify areas for improving pitch accuracy independent of lyrics. For homework, the Student was tasked with practicing the song daily, focusing on singing the melody with different vowels.
