Felipe - Know your guitar teacher
Hi, I'm Felipe Alvarez, a Berklee College of Music graduate and a working guitarist with over 10 years of teaching and performing experience. I specialize in nylon string, classical, jazz, and Latin guitar, but I'm equally comfortable guiding students through acoustic, electric, and bass. My teaching background includes serving as Music Clubhouse Coordinator at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, where I taught guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass. I produced a full student album that landed on streaming platforms and got the kids performing at House of Blues and BAMS Fest. As a performer, I've toured internationally as lead guitarist on the Raíces tour across the US, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and I've worked alongside Grammy-winning artists Tony Succar and Andrés Cepeda. I've recorded on 22+ commercially released tracks, including songs with over 110,000 Spotify streams. I also produced a 330+ nylon string guitar sample pack signed with a top sample label and set for distribution through Splice, a project that gave me deep insight into tone, phrasing, and the small details that make guitar parts feel alive. My lessons cover chord progressions, strumming and picking technique, fingerstyle, scales and modes, ear training, music theory, improvisation, sight reading, and repertoire across genres from classical and bossa nova to blues, jazz, rock, and Latin styles. I tailor every lesson to the student's goals, whether you're a complete beginner picking up your first guitar, an intermediate player breaking through a plateau, or an advanced musician refining your craft. I teach in both English and Spanish (native speaker), and I bring patience, structure, and real-world musicianship to every session. Let's build your skills and have fun doing it.

Guitar concepts taught by Felipe
The student and tutor focused on jazz guitar audition preparation, specifically analyzing chord progressions and harmonic structures within jazz standards. They practiced playing chord voicings and began discussing interval theory to understand chord construction, with plans to focus on mastering the song's chords and then developing improvisation skills.
