Jherlyn - Know your tutor

I’m Jherlyn Vecido, a Cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science Teaching, major in Mathematics, with over two years of tutoring experience. I began teaching during my undergraduate studies through on- and off-campus programs, working with Grade 7 and Grade 10 students. After graduating, I worked as an ESL tutor, which strengthened both my teaching and communication skills. I also tutored grade school and high school students in my hometown, focusing mainly on Math while supporting them with homework, test preparation, and drills. Currently, I tutor elementary and middle school students online in Math while preparing for my licensure exam results. My teaching style is student-centered. I start by building rapport and assessing prior knowledge, then guide students using the “I do, We do, You do” approach. I also use probing questions to keep them engaged and ensure they fully understand the lesson. I take pride in simplifying Math concepts through unique methods like Math Tricks as well as incorporating real-life applications. Whether your child needs help with Problem Solving, Test Strategies, or just a confidence boost in Math, I am here to guide them every step of the way. Let's work together and unlock your full potential in Math.

The Student and Tutor continued their study of basic arithmetic operations with integers. The session began with a review of integer multiplication homework, focusing on sign rules and word problems. The main topic introduced was integer division, covering its sign rules, inverse relationship with multiplication, and application in solving division problems, including complex word problems. Homework was assigned on division, and the next session is planned as a comprehensive practice of all four integer operations.

The Student and Tutor reviewed homework on integer subtraction, applying rules like "add the opposite" and handling double negatives. They then introduced and practiced multiplication of integers, focusing on sign rules (same signs yield positive, different signs yield negative) and solving related word problems. Homework on integer multiplication was assigned for the next session.

The Tutor and Student began by reviewing integer addition rules and checking the Student's homework. They then introduced and extensively practiced integer subtraction, focusing on the rule of 'adding the opposite.' The session concluded with an overview of integer multiplication, emphasizing its sign rules, and the Student was assigned homework for subtraction.

The session focused on basic arithmetic, specifically the addition of integers. The Tutor and Student reviewed definitions of various number types, established rules for adding integers based on their signs and absolute values, and practiced applying these rules with numerical examples and word problems, using a number line for visualization. Homework problems on integer addition were assigned, and future lessons will cover other integer operations.

The class session covered methods for solving quadratic equations, specifically 'completing the square' and the 'quadratic formula'. The student practiced these techniques with the tutor's guidance, working through example problems. A homework assignment was given to reinforce the quadratic formula, and the concept of the discriminant was briefly introduced.

The Student and Tutor engaged in a demo lesson covering the introduction to area and volume. They discussed the definitions of flat and solid shapes, explored formulas for calculating the area of rectangles and the volume of rectangular prisms, and practiced identifying these concepts through various examples and word problems. A lesson plan was briefly presented at the end of the session.
