Torianne - Get to know your vocal coach
As a student of voice, the most important thing I have learned is that singing is a skill - not just a talent. Once the voice is organized, anyone can learn to sing in any style. (You may not believe me, but I started at NYU not even being able to mix, and now I am able to belt up to a G5 and whistle up to an E♭6.) This growth was possible because of the classes I took at NYU. I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Musical Theatre. Some of these classes included voice pedagogy, song analysis/performance, and music theory/aural skills. Through these skills, I have worked Off-Broadway and all over NYC, and I would love to share this knowledge with others. I specialize in musical theatre singing. I can help you with your Golden Age repertoire all the way to your beltiest of belts! I have also cross-trained in classical and contemporary styles. I am a master at helping people find repertoire to sing. You want a new song? Give me a vibe, and I will send you options. You have an audition coming up? I’ve got you covered. All of my friends come to me to help them pick out what’s right for them. I believe in a holistic approach to the voice—first organizing the instrument through vocal exercises, and then transferring those skills into repertoire. My goal is healthy, sustainable singing that is also joyful. Most importantly, I believe the student knows best, because they are the only one in their body. I can offer feedback based on what I see and hear, but only you can tell me how it feels. Together, we can figure out how to make singing feel good for you.

Singing concepts taught by Torianne
The session focused on foundational singing techniques, starting with physical and facial warm-ups. The Student then practiced vocal exercises using animal sounds and lip trills, applying these to two different songs to improve pitch accuracy, resonance, and consistent airflow, leading to a legato sound. The Tutor outlined future lessons, emphasizing fun, pitch accuracy, basic breathing, and continued SOVT exercises.

Optimal Song Selection for Vocal Development
The Student and Tutor engaged in a singing lesson focused on enhancing vocal technique and warmth. They practiced various warm-ups, including yawns for vocal space, humming for resonance, and the 'VV' exercise for a thicker tone. The session also addressed specific challenges like vowel clarity and achieving smooth vocal onsets, with the Tutor assigning daily practice of unvoiced to voiced transitions with the 'VV' exercise.

The session focused on vocal technique, specifically practicing unvoiced to voiced onsets and lip trills to improve smooth vocal transitions and pitch accuracy. The Student applied these exercises to a song performance, receiving feedback on tone and ongoing onset challenges. For homework, the Student was advised to continue practicing unvoiced to voiced onsets, slowly opening into words, and to prepare "Never Getting Rid of Me" for the next session.

Smooth Onset Technique: Unvoiced to Voiced Transition
Student and Tutor engaged in a singing lesson, practicing various vocal warm-ups focused on resonance, breath control, and smooth onsets. They applied these techniques to the song "If I Loved You," working to develop a lighter, more legit singing style with improved legato and vowel adjustments. The Student was encouraged to practice the VV warm-ups daily, and the next session will focus on the Student's competition song.

The Student and Tutor practiced vocal warm-ups focusing on flow phonation, pitch accuracy, SOVTS, and legato techniques. The Student applied these to a song, showing quick understanding of legato, but experienced vocal strain due to illness. The session was shortened to prevent vocal damage, and the next lesson was rescheduled to allow for recovery.
