VATSAL - Know your tutor
I have been passionate about teaching from a young age and believe I possess the qualities of a good teacher, such as strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts with ease. I completed my BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics, MSc in Data Science, and later earned an International Vedic Maths Trainer certificate. With over four years of tutoring experience, I have taught nearly 100 students and received excellent feedback. I also hold an MSc in Mathematics and continue to tutor high school and university students. My teaching focuses on simplifying concepts, encouraging problem-solving, and inspiring students to enjoy mathematics. I adapt my methods to individual learning needs and aim to build confidence along with strong conceptual foundations, helping learners achieve their full potential. Mathematics concepts taught by VATSAL
The Tutor and Student reviewed Calculus AB concepts, focusing on particle motion, estimation of derivatives, understanding definite integrals for distance and displacement, and calculating average velocity. The session included practice problems and a discussion on the student's areas for improvement before an upcoming exam.
Interpreting Definite Integrals: Distance Traveled
Riemann Sums: Approximating Integrals
Average Value of a Function
Estimating Derivatives using Slope
The student and tutor worked on factoring quadratic trinomials. They practiced the 'ac' method, including factoring out the greatest common factor and factoring by grouping, and addressed common errors and strategies for handling negative coefficients. The student will continue practicing these factoring techniques.
Factoring Trinomials: The AC Method
Factoring with a Common Factor First
Handling Negative Leading Coefficients
Factoring by Grouping: The Intermediate Step
The Tutor and Student reviewed the properties of parallelograms, including angle and side relationships, and practiced solving related problems. They then introduced the formulas for the sum of interior angles and individual interior/exterior angles of polygons, with the Student practicing calculations for various polygons.
Exterior Angles of Polygons
Interior Angles of Polygons
Properties of Parallelograms
The Tutor and Student practiced solving algebraic equations, with a particular focus on factoring quadratic equations and simplifying linear equations. They worked through several example problems, and the next session is planned to formally cover quadratic equations starting from the basics.
Middle Term Splitting Method
Isolating a Variable
Zero Product Property
Quadratic Equation Standard Form
The Tutor and Student worked on solving radical and quadratic equations. They practiced techniques for isolating radicals, squaring both sides of equations, and factoring quadratic expressions to find solutions. The Tutor encouraged the Student to practice more problems to solidify their understanding.
Solving Radical Equations
Quadratic Equations: Factoring
Factoring Quadratic Expressions (General Case)
Checking Solutions
The tutor and student reviewed solving radical equations, starting with the definition of radicals and progressing to isolating and eliminating radical terms by raising both sides to the root's index. They practiced solving various examples, including those with square and cube roots, and discussed the concept of extraneous solutions. The student worked on solving equations with different root indices, and they planned to continue practicing these concepts.
