Monika - Know your tutor
My name is Monika Chaudhary, and I am a professional mathematics educator with a deep-seated passion for transforming the way students perceive and interact with numbers. I have dedicated my career to bridging the gap between abstract mathematical concepts and real-world application. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), a path that instilled in me a rigorous analytical mindset and a "problem-solver" DNA. While my technical background provided me with a high-level mastery of advanced mathematics, I discovered that my true calling lay in education. This realization led me to pursue a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Teaching, ensuring that my technical knowledge was paired with the pedagogical skills necessary to inspire the next generation. Why I Specialize in Middle Grade Mathematics? In the world of education, the "Middle Grades" (typically Grades 6 through 8) represent a volatile and vital crossroads. It is during these years that mathematics shifts from the concrete world of simple arithmetic to the abstract realm of variables, functions, and logical proofs. I have chosen to specialize in this specific niche because I believe it is the most critical window for academic intervention. Research and experience show that many students develop "math phobia" during middle school. My mission is to intervene at this stage, replacing fear with curiosity and confusion with clarity. While primary education focuses on the "how" of counting and basic operations, I focus on the "why"—the logic that underpins algebra, the spatial reasoning of geometry, and the patterns within the number system.

Mathematics concepts taught by Monika
The student and tutor reviewed the concept of the discriminant in quadratic equations and its relation to the nature of roots. They practiced calculating the discriminant and interpreting its values, then explored the graphical elements of quadratic functions like the vertex, axis of symmetry, and intercepts using Desmos. The tutor also discussed upcoming topics including vertex and axis of symmetry and suggested using online graphing tools for practice.
Quadratic Formula vs. Factorization
The Discriminant (d)
Interpreting Graph Features (x- and y-intercepts)
Vertex and Axis of Symmetry
The session focused on quadratic equations, starting with a review of the Student's homework on graphing. The Tutor introduced factorization, the quadratic formula, and the concept of the discriminant to solve and analyze quadratic equations. The Student practiced identifying coefficients, calculating the discriminant, and finding the roots of various equations. Homework was assigned to continue practicing these concepts.

The Determinant (D = b² - 4ac)
Classifying Roots with the Determinant
Parabola: The Shape of a Quadratic Graph
The tutor and student reviewed quadratic equations, practiced solving them, and explored their graphical representation as parabolas. They worked through plotting points and understanding real-world applications of parabolas. The session concluded with a review quiz, and homework was assigned involving graphing quadratic equations.
Quadratic Equations and Their Solutions (Roots)
The Parabola: Graph of Quadratic Equations
Plotting Quadratic Graphs
Roots and Graph Intersections
The tutor and student reviewed linear equations before transitioning to solving quadratic equations through factoring. They practiced identifying factors, splitting the middle term, and applying these skills to various quadratic equations and word problems, including those involving geometric areas.

Factoring Quadratic Equations: Splitting the Middle Term
Solving Quadratic Equations of the form x² = k
Quadratic Equations in Word Problems
The tutor and student reviewed algebra concepts, including simplifying expressions and solving equations. They then progressed to multi-step equations with variables on both sides and formula rearrangement, applying these skills to engineering-related problems. The student practiced substitution and solving for unknown variables.
Combining Like Terms and Algebraic Simplification
Solving Linear Equations: Transposition Rule
Formula Rearrangement in Engineering
Substitution in Engineering Formulas
The class focused on foundational algebra, including solving equations, understanding the order of operations (BODMAS), and simplifying algebraic expressions. The student practiced applying these concepts to both abstract problems and word problems related to physics and engineering formulas, with homework assigned for continued practice.
