Thea - Know your tutor
I am Thea Maestrecampo, with over 5 years of experience teaching Mathematics. My expertise covers from elementary to middle school math such as basic math, pre - algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, statistics, pre - calculus, and even basic calculus. I always prioritize my students' personalized learning experience such gamification and math tricks. Of course, I also consider the parent's request such as improvement of grades, homework help, mastering math concepts, and preparation for exams - even advancing them. I always include assessing the student first, giving them practice drills with math tricks along the way, and making sure they appreciate the lesson and enjoying the class as well. I also worked with students who had different learning needs that includes difficulty in learning attention, comprehension, and processing information. With these experiences, I learned how to break down the tasks into smaller and manageable parts, used simple instructions, and incorporated interactive tools online to help them understand the Math concept even better. Overall, all of these experiences strengthened my ability to be emphatic, creative, and student - centered. Now, I value inclusivity and student - centered learning.

Mathematics concepts taught by Thea
The Tutor and Student reviewed previously assigned trigonometry homework, confirming understanding of basic sine, cosine, and tangent ratios. They then applied these concepts to solve for unknown side lengths in right triangles using real-world problems and learned how to use a scientific calculator for trigonometric functions. The Tutor assigned additional practice problems for homework, emphasizing the importance of correctly identifying the reference angle.
Solving for Unknown Sides using the Sine (sin) Ratio
Trigonometric Ratios: SOH CAH TOA
Algebraic Manipulation & Scientific Calculator Use
Solving for Unknown Sides using the Tangent (tan) Ratio
Solving for Unknown Sides using the Cosine (cos) Ratio
The Student and Tutor reviewed identifying parts of special right triangles and then began an introduction to trigonometry. They covered the definitions and calculations of tangent, sine, and cosine ratios, practicing how to identify the opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse sides based on a reference angle. The Student received homework to continue simplifying trigonometric ratios.

The session focused on fundamental pre-calculus algebra concepts. Student and Tutor practiced finding the domain of a rational function with a square root, evaluating composite functions, and solving exponential equations by equating bases. The Tutor suggested continued practice on these topics to build the Student's understanding.

The Tutor and Student worked on special right triangles, covering both 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 configurations. They practiced identifying triangle parts, applying formulas for side lengths, and performing operations with radicals, including rationalizing denominators. The Student's previous homework on Pythagorean triples was quickly reviewed, and a new assignment focusing on both types of special right triangles was given, with plans to introduce basic trigonometry in the next session.

The 30-60-90 Special Right Triangle
Essential Radical Operations for Triangles
The session focused on geometry, specifically the Pythagorean theorem and its applications to right triangles. The Student practiced finding missing sides, simplifying square roots, and learned about Pythagorean triples. A homework assignment was provided, and the Tutor requested the Student to relay future review plans for geometry and algebra to their parent.

Right Triangles: Identifying Parts
The Student and Tutor practiced identifying different types of triangle congruency (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, RHS) through various exercises, including a multi-step proof involving corresponding parts of congruent triangles (CPCTC). The session concluded with a review of finding the perimeter of a triangle with algebraic side lengths. The Student was reminded to complete their outstanding homework.
