Mary Jean - Know your tutor
I am an online Mathematics tutor with a Diploma on Master of Arts in Mathematics Education with specialization in Secondary School teaching has been teaching for a face to face classroom setup for almost a decade now. I have taught in Elementary teaching 1st, 2nd and 5th grade as Mathematics teacher for 2 years and currently, I am a Mathematics teacher handling 7th and 8th grade. My expertise lies in teaching Algebra, Geometry, Probability and the likes. I have also an experience tutoring Mathematics and ELA for Elementary and Middle schoolers from LATAM. Althroughout my teaching, I have been an advocate of learner-centered designing personalized instruction for students with varies learning interests. I am flexible in terms of pacing based on students learning capabilities. The use if interactive tools such as whiteboards, online quizzes, graphing tools, video and gamified learning is also one of my expertise. This will help learners feel more excited and motivated in learning. I make it a point that lessons are concretize by applying them in real life situations. I guide learners instead of dominating the lesson. If students are facing difficulty, I break lessons into pieces to make sure that mastery of the lesson is achieved.

Mathematics concepts taught by Mary Jean
The Student and Tutor reviewed foundational algebra concepts, specifically focusing on operations with integers and an introduction to monomials. They practiced adding and subtracting integers using specific rules, including the "Keep-Change-Change" method for subtraction. The class also covered identifying monomials, understanding "like terms," and combining monomials through addition and subtraction, with the Tutor mentioning that more advanced algebra topics would be covered in future sessions.

What are Integers?
The Tutor and Student reviewed and practiced operations on integers, including addition, subtraction using the "Keep-Change-Change" rule, and multiplication/division with rules for signs. The main focus was on applying the GEMDAS rule for the order of operations to solve multi-step mathematical expressions. The session concluded with a plan to discuss operations on fractions in the upcoming class.

Order of Operations (GEMDAS/PEMDAS)
Student and Tutor reviewed simplifying, multiplying, and dividing rational algebraic expressions, focusing on various factoring techniques, including a trial-and-error method for trinomials. They also covered simplifying complex fractions using the LCD method, practicing several examples. The Student plans to send homework for upcoming topics (8.5 to 9.2) in advance of the next session.
Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions
Factoring Trinomials (When 'a' ≠ 1)
Simplifying Complex Fractions Using the LCD Method
Precise Handling of Negative Signs and Cancellation Rules
The Tutor and Student began a review of fundamental mathematics, specifically focusing on operations with polynomials. They covered identifying like terms, practicing addition and subtraction of polynomials, and started discussing the rules for multiplying terms with exponents. The session concluded with interactive games to practice integer addition and subtraction, with plans to cover multiplication and division of polynomials in the next session.

Student and Tutor worked on simplifying rational expressions, applying them to geometric problems, and determining the domain of rational functions. They also clarified the difference between evaluating and simplifying expressions, and how to find values that make an expression equal to zero. For the next session, the Student plans to send homework screenshots from sections 8.2-8.4 to focus on similar problems and recognition of problem types.

The Tutor and Student worked on problems involving circles, including calculating radius, diameter, and circumference, and applying the Pythagorean theorem to circle-related geometry. They also defined and distinguished between congruent and concentric circles and explored algebraic representations in circle problems. The session covered fundamental circle properties and similarity theorems.
