Mary Jean - Know your tutor

I am an online Mathematics tutor with a Diploma on Master of Arts in Mathematics Education with specialization in Secondary School teaching has been teaching for a face to face classroom setup for almost a decade now. I have taught in Elementary teaching 1st, 2nd and 5th grade as Mathematics teacher for 2 years and currently, I am a Mathematics teacher handling 7th and 8th grade. My expertise lies in teaching Algebra, Geometry, Probability and the likes. I have also an experience tutoring Mathematics and ELA for Elementary and Middle schoolers from LATAM. Althroughout my teaching, I have been an advocate of learner-centered designing personalized instruction for students with varies learning interests. I am flexible in terms of pacing based on students learning capabilities. The use if interactive tools such as whiteboards, online quizzes, graphing tools, video and gamified learning is also one of my expertise. This will help learners feel more excited and motivated in learning. I make it a point that lessons are concretize by applying them in real life situations. I guide learners instead of dominating the lesson. If students are facing difficulty, I break lessons into pieces to make sure that mastery of the lesson is achieved.

Mathematics concepts taught by Mary Jean

Student learned 6 days ago

The Student and Tutor continued their discussion on factoring, specifically focusing on quadratic trinomials. They practiced finding binomial factors for trinomials where the leading coefficient is one, then moved on to the AC method for trinomials with a leading coefficient other than one. The session included multiple practice problems and a short interactive game to reinforce the concepts.

The Student and Tutor initiated a lesson on solving quadratic equations, specifically focusing on the factoring method. They practiced identifying and applying the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) to expressions, and reviewed the rules for multiplying and dividing monomials to strengthen foundational skills. The class also introduced the FOIL method for multiplying binomials, with future sessions planned to delve deeper into factoring.

The Student and Tutor reviewed foundational algebra concepts, specifically focusing on operations with integers and an introduction to monomials. They practiced adding and subtracting integers using specific rules, including the "Keep-Change-Change" method for subtraction. The class also covered identifying monomials, understanding "like terms," and combining monomials through addition and subtraction, with the Tutor mentioning that more advanced algebra topics would be covered in future sessions.
