Xavier - Your piano teacher
I'm Xavier Klish, a student at NYU earning a Bachelors degree in concert composition. I've spent the past five years studying and performing the piano and am eager to pursue teaching. With less than a year of tutoring experience, I focus on educating students on chord voicing, reading written notes as well as chord changes, and music theory. I also structure lessons around essential skills such as technique and rhythm. I primarily offer lessons to kids, beginners, and intermediate players who are curious about trying to compose some of their own work. With extensive experience using Dorico and Logic I'm capable of guiding students interested in writing and recording musical ideas with engraving software and DAWs. Having spent time with jazz, pop, rock, and classical genres, I also provide teaching for students interested in learning about progressions and melodies that make up their own personal tastes. My overall goal is to let the student determine what they want out of learning piano and using lessons to specifically point them in the direction of their desired ability. Regardless of musical ability, I hope to help lean students towards an appreciation for the piano and all that is possible within the 88 keys.

Piano concepts taught by Xavier
Student and Tutor reviewed C major scales, practiced 1-5-1, 1-4-5-1, and 2-5-1 chord progressions on the piano, focusing on fingerings and inversions. They also worked on playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" with both hands, combining melody and bass lines. Homework involves practicing scales, chords, and the two-hand song arrangement, with a plan to introduce chords to the left hand for the song in future sessions.

C Major Scale Fingering
The Student and Tutor reviewed reading music notation, specifically notes in both treble and bass clefs, including ledger lines. They practiced playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" with two hands, coordinating the melody with bass clef accompaniment, and briefly reviewed C major scale fingerings. The Tutor will send the sheet music for continued practice and encouraged the Student to explore the piano freely.
