I graduated in Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. I have seen the beginners of the piano players, I know how to approach them and which ways of the teaching techniques should I teach. It might take time but the foundation will firm. Especially for the church setting pianists, I will start with the chords and its structures. The major, minor, the seventh, the suspension, the major seventh, the minor seventh, the diminished, the augmented, etc. and what are the intervals. Then I will add the way we can play by using only chords in many styles. Then for the next step I will teach how to sight read, from the basic of the music theory as sight reading and applying it in playing. Through it, they’ll be able to play the hymns. In addition, I will give them the fingers exercises and scales playing. If they influence in playing the chords I will continue to next topic of transposition and Modulation, how to change the key and how modulate in many ways. Then the Roman numeral notation for the chords as well, it will be helpful in transposing and modulating. And it will also include for the accompaniment playing as well, not only service playing. The students are in the church setting or not they will be able to play the songs they want to play.
