My experience as an online maths tutor has been both exciting and rewarding. I always try to create a positive and friendly learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. I believe that mathematics becomes much easier when it is taught in a fun and engaging way. During my online classes, I use different creative teaching methods to make learning enjoyable. For example, I include math games, puzzles, and riddles to make students think critically while having fun. Sometimes I turn practice questions into small challenges or quizzes, which motivates students to participate actively. I also use real-life examples—such as shopping, sharing food, or measuring objects—to help students understand how maths is used in everyday life. Another style I follow is step-by-step visual teaching. Using an online whiteboard, diagrams, and colorful illustrations, I break down difficult problems into simple steps. This helps students clearly see the process and understand the concept instead of just memorizing formulas. I also encourage students to explain their thinking and try different methods to solve the same problem. This discussion-based approach builds confidence and improves their logical thinking. To keep the classes lively, I sometimes include quick brain warm-ups, mental math activities, and short fun competitions during the session. The most satisfying part of my teaching journey is watching students who once felt nervous about maths slowly start enjoying it and solving problems with confidence. By combining clear explanations with fun activities, I aim to make mathematics an interesting and enjoyable subject for every student.

Mathematics concepts taught by Shaheen
The Student and Tutor worked on converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers using visual representations and problem-solving exercises. The Student practiced drawing and shading parts of blocks to represent fractions and convert between the two forms, with plans to continue this practice in future sessions.
Visual Representation of Fractions
Numerator and Denominator Roles
Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions
The student and tutor worked on converting between improper and mixed fractions, both through algebraic manipulation and visual modeling. They practiced adding and subtracting unlike fractions using the LCM method and began exploring the conversion of mixed fractions to improper fractions. The student was assigned practice questions to reinforce these concepts.
Converting Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers
Adding and Subtracting Unlike Fractions
Converting Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions
The Tutor and Student reviewed quadratic factoring techniques, including when the leading coefficient is not one, and solved various quadratic equations and radical expressions. They practiced factorization methods and simplified radical equations, with the Student being assigned a final equation as homework.
Quadratic Equation Factoring with Non-Unity Leading Coefficients
Roots of Quadratic Equations
Radicals and Roots (Nth Roots)
The Tutor and Student reviewed fraction concepts, including finding the Least Common Multiple (LCM), adding like and unlike fractions, and representing fractions on a number line. They practiced converting visual models to mixed fractions and discussed the placement of mixed fractions on a number line, with plans to cover improper to mixed fraction conversion and equivalent fractions in the next class.

Adding Like Fractions
Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)
The student and tutor reviewed fraction operations, including addition with unlike denominators and converting mixed fractions to improper fractions. They practiced solving word problems and a spelling game, with the student eventually mastering the mixed fraction conversion. The student will practice assigned problems during their upcoming holiday.

Basic Multiplication and Subtraction of Fractions
The student and tutor reviewed and practiced algebraic concepts including simplifying expressions with parentheses and exponents, adding, subtracting, and multiplying algebraic terms. They also focused on factoring, specifically finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and factoring quadratic expressions by splitting the middle term. The tutor assigned a challenging factoring problem as homework.
