Learn Spanish through reading and storytelling with an experienced CUNY graduate.

I have been involved in teaching Spanish almost as long as I have been learning it. I was a freelance tutor in high school and during my undergraduate studies, where I received a minor in Spanish language. After graduating college, I continued tutoring for Varsity Tutors for 3 years until I decided to pursue a Master's Degree. I received a Master's in Spanish and Secondary Education. I then worked as a high school Spanish teacher in Spring Valley, NY for two years. It was a low-income, high-need school district with many unique challenges. I taught many native speakers with little to no literacy in their native Spanish, as well as many students with unique learning needs and behavioral issues. I employed the TPRS method, teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling, which was a new method to the school. I was given autonomy to design my own curriculum from the ground up, aligned to state and ACTFL standards. In my instruction, grammar takes a backseat, providing essential scaffolding for real, organic engagement with the target language through conversation, storytelling, and creative exercises. I provide an accessible learning environment for students with a diverse range of needs. I look forward to employing my methods with this company.
