Nate - Your piano teacher
My name is Nate Deshler. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from Loyola University New Orleans, where I was a professional working musician for over ten years, performing and recording music on piano, bassoon, and vocals across a wide range of styles and settings. For the last six years, I have also taught music lessons both online and in person to students ranging from 6 years old to adults. My teaching experience includes beginner to advanced piano technique, jazz piano and improvisation, as well as basic to advanced music theory, songwriting, and composition, with an emphasis on creativity, musicianship, and individualized instruction. I enjoy sharing my passion and expertise with students, and helping them find their preferred avenue of musical expression, whichever genre or level of competence they wish to achieve.

I make sure to tailor the content and the pace of the lessons to the age and needs of each student, while always trying to incorporate different genres (what types of music/artists is the student interested in? Let's work on some of that music), some music history (who wrote the piece we are working on, what was the musical context of the time?), and some science (i.e. looking inside the piano and explaining how the instrument works). I think this gives lessons some more variety than just going over exercises and scales, and with that variety hopefully comes more fun, engagement, and curiosity about the subject matter. I believe that lessons, and learning in general, should be something to look forward to, and enjoy the process as well as the progress. Most often, one lesson per week is recommended, but more or less frequent meetings can be arranged if necessary. I would love to share my expertise to help you learn to play your favorite music, whatever style and proficiency level you are looking to master. Thanks!
