Piano lessons at a glance
I welcome learners of all ages – children, teens and adults – and adapt the way I teach to their stage of life, but my core belief remains the same: piano lessons should develop solid musical literacy and healthy technique so that students can truly enjoy expressing themselves and carry music with them throughout their lives. I place equal value on discipline and enjoyment. I believe that strong basics are not a constraint but a gateway; the more secure a student’s foundations are, the more confidently they can interpret pieces, improvise and explore music they love. I also believe that each student learns differently. Some respond best to clear structure and detailed explanation; others need games, imagery and experimentation. My role is to observe how they respond and adjust my approach so lessons feel both challenging and achievable. In a typical 30–60 minute lesson, I work through a clear but flexible sequence. We begin with a short warm‑up, often using scales or simple technical patterns to wake up the hands and ears. Reading and basic theory are integrated into this process: we talk about key signatures, rhythm patterns and intervals directly in the context of their pieces. After a playthrough of previous homework, we zoom in on specific bars or sections that need work, and I demonstrate, explain and guide slow, mindful practice. Finally, we agree on a simple improvement plan for the week so the student leaves knowing exactly what to focus on at home. Overall, my methodology is rooted in strong basics, clear explanation, and genuine enjoyment. I want students to leave each lesson feeling that they understand a little more, can play a little better, and are one step closer to making the music they love their own.
